2018 January Faves

While reading, listen to Your Love is Strong by Cory Asbury.

Happy February, people!

Today is a beautiful, 72 degree day. The sun is shining, the trees are blossoming, and it’s all making me long for Spring! What is it about those early sunny days that just make you daydream about spring cleaning, planting flowers, and picnic lunches? No...just me?

Well, I certainly know I’m not the only one who feels like January went on for AGES. As one of those eager beavers who likes to put her Christmas decor back in boxes right away, those awkward days leading to January 1st seem extra long, making the month itself feel like two!

I hope you are feeling motivated and optimistic about 2018, and that your goals have not already begun to gather dust. The January slump is a real thing people, so we have to fight extra hard to make every moment count, and to stay motivated!

As February is upon us, I figured it was a great time to share with you what I have been loving recently.

These posts certainly aren’t deep, but they’re some of my favorite to write, because it feels like I’m just sitting with you on my couch, sharing my favorite things, and babbling on about why you should try them too!

Here they are, my January 2018 Favorites!

Favories - Reading.jpg

Loveology by John Mark Comer - Reed and I have been reading a chapter of this book, every morning with our coffee. In the midst of our busy lives, we don’t want complacency, distractions, or anything at all to get in the way of God’s best for our marriage. We know this is never a matter of what God can or can’t do in our relationship, but is a matter of how intentional and devoted we are to do our part! So there has been no better way to start our year together, than by reading this book. John Mark Comer spectacularly lays out what God’s design is for love, sex, and marriage. It is practical, insightful, funny, and convicting - I highly recommend it to anyone!

Dance, Stand, Run by Jess Connolly - I loved Jess Connolly’s writing so much in Wild & Free and on her Instagram posts, that I knew I had give her new book a read! I am a few chapters shy of finishing it, and I am absolutely floored by it. Her willingness to address topics like holiness, mission, and grace, and her creativity with which she does, is inspiring for me as a Christian woman and a writer!

The Writing Life by Annie Dillard - I finished this book in two days while on a little post-Christmas vacation with family. I sincerely love how Annie narrates her own writing journey, while shedding some serious light and wisdom into the process of creativity for others. The book reads like compounding ramblings, and you sense her witty and sharp spirit through it all.

Favories - Watching.jpg

Violette_fr on YouTube - My hairstylist and friend Shannon and I always swap things we’re obsessed with at the moment, and she introduced me to Violette on YouTube! Violette lives in Brooklyn, NY and is a French Makeup Artist and the Global Beauty Director for Estee Lauder. I love how creatively Violette communicates her looks, and how she encourages embracing your natural beauty. Plus, she doesn’t format her videos like most makeup bloggers, with a big light and staged background - she films in public places! This makes her videos seem so effortless and gives natural light to her looks.

Alias Grace - In what felt like a blink of an eye, Reed and I devoured this six-part Netflix Original series. The story follows Grace Marks, an Irish immigrant and housemaid in Canada, who was convicted of a double murder (of her boss and his lover!) in 1843. A handsome psychiatrist, who suspects she is innocent, meets with her in prison to figure out the truth — she tells him that she can’t remember anything about the day of the murder, so he sets out to see if she is lying, insane or innocent. The show is based on the 1996 novel by Margaret Atwood and was adapted by Sarah Polley, who is a master screenwriter. Not to mention, Alias Grace received a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes! We loved this mini-series so much, and have recommended it to just about everyone!

Friends - I mean, need I say more? I’m ashamed to say I have never watched this series all the way through, so Reed and I have seriously enjoyed watching a couple episodes before bed every night. They just don’t make sitcom TV like they used to! How we waited so long, I have no idea! Who’s YOUR favorite friend?

Favories - Listening.jpg

Reckless Love by Cory Asbury - This beautiful and simple worship album has been the soundtrack to my morning time in the Word all month! I love the lyrics of every song, and Reckless Love, the well-known single, is no exception.

The Dangerous Summer by The Dangerous Summer - If you were to ask me what the soundtrack of my life sounds like, I’d sum it up by saying, “The Dangerous Summer.” I have been a massive fan since my junior year in high school, and return to their music again and again. When The Dangerous Summer broke up in 2014, I was shattered, but then they made all my dreams come true and reunited! This is their first release since their reunion, and it is everything I hoped for! Current favorite track: Ghosts (Well maybe Luna...no, Fire, or Infinite...ahh, never mind!)

Favories - Beautifying.jpg

UNITE Hair U-Oil - Yet another recommendation from my lovely hairstylist, Shannon! I received this oil as the winner of her giveaway, and have been using it everyday since. My hair is curly and naturally dry and frizzy, or should I say, it WAS naturally dry and frizzy. This stuff is basically pure Argan oil, and has transformed my hair. It has quickly become a ride or die product!

Woman by Ralph Lauren - This fragrance was a Christmas present, and the scent is incredible! With a mix of sandalwood, vanilla, honey, and floral notes - it is the ultimate girly scent for those who don’t typically go in that direction! I know that sounds silly, but as someone who NEVER prefers super sweet, floral scents, this has become my exception. Bonus: it only smells better throughout the day!

Sephora Collection Long Lasting Kohl Pencil in Deep Brown - As the holidays come to a close, I always lean towards a more natural makeup look. I love the fun of bold lips and winged liner, but for most of January, I’ve been sticking to a swipe of this brown kohl liner on my eyelids. I love how easy it is to apply, the brown feels like a fresh alternative, and it makes my blue eyes pop!

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Lip Pencil in Naked 2 & Rosebud Salve - Paired with my brown eyeliner, I’ve been digging this natural lip combo. Urban Decay Naked 2 is my perfect nude shade with a hint of pink, giving my skin some needed color. I line my lips and rub it in with my fingers, getting rid of any harsh lines and making it look more natural. I top it off with this super nourishing and shiny Rosebud salve, and I’m good to go!

Favories - Eating.jpg

Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel Seasoning Blend - It would not be a Victoria, Truthfully favorites without a random food item! I kid you not, I put this seasoning on everything...plain avocados, eggs, salads, ramen, salmon, sweet potatoes...and the list goes on. If everything bagels are your thing (or even if they aren’t, live a little!) this seasoning is must-buy next time you’re at Trader Joe’s!

Trader Joe's Crispy Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies - Another new favorite from Trader Joe's! I do my best to avoid the snack aisles in most stores, but I have a very persistent sweet tooth! Reed and I have had these stocked in our pantry for all of January, and they are so addicting! I love having a handful with a glass of wine for dessert.

And that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed this post, and that you love these things as much as I do.

Share in the comments something you’ve been obsessed with since January, and let me know which of these things you’re dying to try!
