The way it pulls the inner child out of the grumpiest adult, or how it causes anticipation and excitement for the surprises under a tree. One can hardly say the words, "Merry Christmas", without feeling like they will burst into laughter or as if they are sharing a delicious secret. Even now, a smile has crept across my face without my permission! It is a lovely time of year, full of the promise of new beginnings, family time around long tables, air so cold you can see your breathe, and a few extra, happy pounds added to us all.
Though the excitement of December awaits, perhaps for others, the joy still feels beyond reach.
I am no stranger to the uproar our world, and more recently, our nation has experienced. For many, the unexpected has taken place, and it is a scary thing. People are more divided than ever, many are struggling to feel safe, and countless friends have become enemies over their differences. This is no small thing, what people are feeling. I do not attempt to minimize it with words of festivity or celebration. No, instead, I aim to highlight the joy and peace available to even those in the trenches. This month, I hope to add some light and love to an otherwise heavy time. No matter who you are, or what you are feeling, the truth is this: we have much to be thankful for, and much to look forward to.
I believe in Jesus. And just as Jesus kept his promise to a nation and to us that he would come, save, and restore - I believe that he is keeping that promise still.
So as you're feeling whatever you are feeling, allow yourself to step into some joy. Eat a Christmas cookie. Or three. Sing to Mariah Carey on the radio at the top of your lungs. Smile at a cashier in Target. Hug your annoying sibling. Remember that the most important thing you can do is love your family and your world as best as you can. Don't let fear or negativity rob you of all the magic December carries. It would truly be a shame.
This year, as a celebration of December, Christmas, life, and love, I will be blogging every day from December 1st to the 25th.
I'm calling it, 25 Days of Blogmas!
Throughout the 25 days, I will be sharing a mix of fun, festive, and deep posts about what the holiday season means to me. Additionally, and this is something I'm really excited about, I will be highlighting US-based, small businesses, who make beautiful things and who are uniquely honing their passion and craft. My hope is that as you hear about their stories, and see their fantastic work, you will be inspired to "shop small" this Christmas. Due to how busy this time of year can be, I do not have a scheduled time that you can expect each of my posts to be up, but I do promise a new one every day. I'm so excited and up for this creative challenge, and I hope you will follow along and share with your friends!
So, without further ado, I give you Blogmas! For today, I will be sharing my Winter 2016 Bucket List!
I can't help it. I love lists. Feel free to save it, print it, and stick it up on your wall this month! Add to it, and have fun with it. And please, share in the comments as you check things off! I would love to hear all about your December festivities. If you share any of them on Instagram, hashtag #VTBlogmas! I will be on the lookout for your adorable posts.
I'm so excited to spend December with you! I'll be back again tomorrow, coffee in hand, and lots of fun things to share. Merry Christmas!
