A Cozy Letter-Writing Afternoon (In Partnership with English Country Press)

While reading, listen to Leave The Light On (Demo) by Marissa Nadler.

One of my favorite things in the entire world is receiving mail.

Any mail-lovers out there? Rarely do I receive something special or exciting, yet every day I race Reed to our mail box to see if maybe, just maybe something wonderful is waiting for me. When I was living in Los Angeles, my sister and I wrote letters to each other, and I would squeal with delight when my mom surprised me with a little care package (made complete with her famous chocolate chip cookies, of course).

Anytime I receive a special card or letter in the mail, I make it a habit to immediately sit down and write one too. I can almost always assume that there is someone in my life who needs a little day-brightening love and encouragement. And sometimes, a text just just does not do the trick! There is something so thoughtful and classy about receiving a hand-written "thank-you", or "thinking of you" in such a digital age. Letters have a way of connecting people in a personal manner, and I think we could all use a little more personal.

I’ve always felt there is something sacred in a piece of paper that travels the earth from hand to hand, head to head, heart to heart.

Due to this obsession with mail, I have been on the hunt for some personalized stationary that isn't too pricey (so I can continue to restock). There are countless options out there, but I really wanted something that was simple, sweet, and had enough writing space -- I can tend to be a bit wordy. I also decided to try and find some stationary that was US made, and created by a small business owner. Those who embrace their own expression of creativity and make space for it in their lives deserve recognition and support.

Etsy is an online marketplace for independent sellers who curate vintage, and handmade goods. It is one of my favorite places to look for personal gifts, or unique art. There, I found English Country Press, a store for custom stationary, greeting cards, and notebooks. Their shop motto sounded like my very own words!

Writing is at the heart of what we do here at English Country Press; we strongly believe that life’s personal stories and moments are best told through the gift of a handwritten note, and hope that our products inspire you to share these moments with others. Keeping in touch with your friends and loved ones should be personal; what better way to share your story than in your own handwriting?
— Marisa Sundin, Owner and Curator at English Country Press

Any business owner who likes to write letters and create beautiful things is a friend of mine. I was also pleased to find that her products were so affordable! It was not long until I was sitting at my desk with my own personalized stationary and notebook (this is adult stuff, people)! After a  couple lovely and cozy hours of letter writing, with tea in hand, candles lit, and pen a-ready, my mail and introvert quotas had both been met.

Letter writing is the only device combining solitude with good company.
