Blogmas Day 20: Festive Makeup Tips to Try This Christmas

While reading, listen to It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas by Michael Buble.

The holiday season is the best time of year to give your makeup look a revamp.

I love experimenting and trying new products throughout the year, but Christmas and New Year’s gives you that extra, festive push to go a little more daring or sparkly. The beauty aisles and sections of stores have been hard to resist lately, their glimmering compacts, limited edition palettes, and special holiday deals calling out to me.

It feels like a new product is launched nearly every day, making it difficult to keep up! Taking me to Sephora is like bringing a kid to a candy story...my eyes go wide at the sight of all of the products, and my money burns in my pocket. This year is no exception...countless brands have released gorgeous new holiday products, and they are the perfect way to add some Christmas flair and a festive touch to your makeup look.

Whether you are attending a Christmas party, spending time with family, going on a special date night, attending a Christmas Eve service, or planning a New Year’s Eve get-together - try something new with your makeup look. Have a little fun with it, and get out of your comfort zone! For Blogmas Day 20, I’m sharing some festive makeup tips and products to inspire you, or perhaps to use as gift ideas for friends!

Blogmas Day 20: Festive Makeup Tips To Try This Christmas

Tip #1 - Add some glitter.

Nothing says holiday makeup look like a little glitter! These products are the perfect way to make your makeup sparkle. My favorite thing to do is add a little glitter on the center of my eyelids. (1 / 2 / 3)

Tip #2 - Make those cheeks rosy.

Take a cue from Santa Clause and give those cheeks some rosy color. This time of year, we can all start to look a little pale and drab. The right amount of color on the cheeks will keep you looking healthy and glowing! (1 / 2 / 3)

Tip #3 - Use an unexpected pop of color.

Add some blue, purple, or even green to your eyeshadow look! A dramatic eye with unexpected color is a great way to change things up. I love picking a stand out shade and using it all over my lid with no eyeliner and tons of mascara. (1 / 2 / 3)

Tip #4 - Add a little drama.

The holiday season is the perfect time to try out false lashes! They can be intimidating and a little difficult to apply at first, so grab a few cheap pairs to practice. I stick with clear or black glue for my lashes, because white drys slow and always shows up. (1 / 2 / 3)

Tip #5 - Find your perfect red.

My go-to look for a Christmas party is made complete with a red lip! These days, there’s a perfect red for every skin tone! I like using a matte liquid lipcolor because it stays in place no matter what I’m eating or drinking! Perfect for a kiss under mistletoe, too! (1 / 2 / 3)

Tip #6 - Revive that summer glow.

This Christmas, I’m applying some self-tanner and bronzing up my cheeks! I am naturally fair, which I don’t mind, but I like adding some color to my skin when the sun is hiding, and the harsh, winter months are upon us. Bring back that summer glow and add some color to yours, too! (1 / 2 / 3)

Tip #7 - Keep it all in place.

Don’t forget to prime and set your makeup! These are steps people often forget, but they are crucial if you want your makeup look to last all day and all night! Apply primer all over your face before applying foundation or tinted moisturizer, and set your completed makeup look with a setting spray to keep it in place. (1 / 2 / 3)
