Blogmas Day 14: My Simple & Delicious Hot Cocoa Recipe
While reading, listen to Hot Chocolate by Tom Hanks.
Is there anything better for icy hands or a sweet tooth, than a Christmas mug filled to the brim with delicious hot cocoa?
I’m honestly salivating just thinking about it. Hot cocoa truly is the quintessential Christmas beverage. Don’t get me wrong...I love a glass of mulled wine, hot apple cider, or even a Starbucks peppermint mocha (in a red cup, of course!), but hot cocoa is just so festive! Made complete with a mountain of whipped cream or marshmallows, hot cocoa is satisfying, simple to make, and the perfect blank canvas for adding your own personal flair. Just this month, these are the flavors I’ve seen offered at some local specialty shops:
Cayenne Hot Cocoa
Thin Mint Hot Cocoa
White Chocolate Peppermint Hot Cocoa
Hazelnut Hot Cocoa
Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa
Dark Chocolate Cherry Hot Cocoa
Crazy, right? There are countless ways to put a creative spin on the timeless classic. Still, I’m a bit of a hot cocoa purist. I prefer to keep it simple: milk chocolate, marshmallows, and maybe a candy cane as a stirrer. To be honest, I’ve had to exercise quite a lot of self control this December to not make myself a mug of hot cocoa every single night. I really could! Though I have the unconditional support of my husband, and my fellow hot cocoa lovers, I just know deep-down, it would be a little excessive. ‘Tis the season for countless sweets and treats after all...and your girl is trying her very best to be good!
But, friend...it’s been one of those weeks. You know the kind. Long meetings. A to-do list that just won’t shrink. Unfinished projects. Bad sleep. And, to top it all off, that dreaded monthly, feminine curse. Need I say more? So I’m welcoming the weekend with a LARGE cup of hot cocoa paired with some series Jesus time. I'm not convinced that duo isn't the possible solution to most of the world's problems. While I’m at it, I’m going to share my go-to simple, and incredibly delicious hot cocoa recipe, so YOU can make some too! Cheers!
